SFI Driving Gloves

Parachute Tech
Packing a parachute is relatively easy once you know the technique. Many times, racers order a deeper pack because they have trouble packing the "laundry." Follow these easy steps, and you'll find the canopy, tow lines, and pilot chute nicely fit back into the original pack.
- Separate and straighten the suspension lines.
- Fold the lines into the pack; attach them to the rubber bands if your pack has them. This will minimize line burns and decrease the chance of the chute spinning or tangling.
- Fold the canopy by picking it up at the main seam and gathering up each skirt band. Repeat the process until all four panels can be held in one hand.
- Old the canopy into the pack. Make the folds beyond the edges of the pack and tuck in the corners.
- Insert a pilot chute and thread string through the loop in the pilot. Fold the pack flaps in the following order: bottom, top, side furthest from the release cable, release cable side.
- Once threaded, slide the safety pin or cable through the loop and remove
- Hook the elastic side straps.
To maximize the life of your investment, wash your chute in warm or cold water, air dry, and then give it a dose of baby powder before packing.
Chute Storage: If you plan on parking your racecar for a long duration, it is best to remove the canopy and pilot from the pack and store them out of sunlight.
